The simple rule: invitations are ordered 4 to 6 months before the wedding, table stationery (menus, place cards) 1 to 2 months before, and guest favors 1 to 2 months before. Anticipating avoids last-minute stress and allows time to calmly approve each design.
This timeline is what I recommend to my clients after having supported hundreds of weddings from my workshop in Paris. Adapt it to your date: the deadlines below are based on D-Day.
When to send save-the-dates?
Ideally 8 to 12 months before the wedding, especially if many guests are coming from far away or if you are getting married during high season (May to September).
Save-the-dates are not mandatory, but they "reserve" your date in your loved ones' calendars even before the official invitation is sent. For a wedding abroad or at a destination, go up to 12 months. Count them per household, not per person.
When to order and send invitations?
Order your invitations 4 to 6 months before the wedding, and send them 3 months before (4 months for a summer or destination wedding).
This allows you time to approve the design, print, and then receive RSVPs before finalizing your seating plan. Plan for one invitation per household, with a few extra copies as keepsakes. This is the centerpiece of your stationery: it sets the tone for everything else.
When to order table stationery?
Order menus, place cards, and table names 1 to 2 months before the wedding, once your guest count is almost final after the invitation RSVPs.

Plan your guest favors 1 to 2 months before the wedding. This is enough time for manufacturing while knowing your final guest count.
